What is Stainless Steel Sheets Plates
The metal is rolled, either hot or cold, to reduce and, most significantly, to standardise the thickness over the entire length of the metal product. Hot rolling refers to the process of rolling hot metal that has reached its recrystallization temperature. When the metal has reached the proper thickness, it is run through rollers that gradually lower its thickness. It is possible for this thickness to be as thin as 11,000th of an inch. The final metal product is referred to as metal plate and is a member of the structural metal family if its thickness is greater than 14" (6mm). Anything thinner than this is referred to as stainless steel sheets plates.
The Difference Between Stainless Steel Sheets and Plate
The thickness can be used to distinguish between stainless steel plates and sheets. Stainless steel plates are defined as having a thickness of at least 14" (6mm). In most cases, plate thickness is expressed in inches. Stainless steel sheets are those that are less than 14" (6mm) thick. Typically, gauges are used to measure sheet. However, it is not unusual to find measurements for metal plates and sheets in mm as well.
